Introduction
VAST.Rehab includes integrated communication and screen-sharing tools that let you supervise a patient during a remote training session. From the Therapist Panel you can see the patient's screen, watch their camera feed, talk to them over two-way audio, and review live session data - all without leaving the application.
This article walks you through the full workflow, from creating the patient account to starting the training session itself. If you are looking for the patient-side instructions, please refer to the companion article: How to connect to your therapist during a remote session (Patient Panel).
Before you start
- You must have an active subscription with tokens for Therapist Panel account (check token plans here).
- The patient must have their own login credentials and access to a Patient Panel installation on Windows, Meta Quest or Android.
- The date and time of the remote session should be agreed with the patient in advance - the therapist can only connect once the patient has opened the Patient Panel and confirmed they are ready.
Step 1 - Create the patient account
If the patient is already on your list, skip to Step 2.
- Log in to the Therapist Panel.
- In the bottom-left corner of the Dashboard, click Add patient.
- Fill in at least the required fields (first name, last name). A login will be generated automatically - you can edit it if needed.
- At the bottom of the screen, click Assign password. You can either generate a password automatically or set one yourself.
- Click Save. The system will generate a PDF document containing the patient's login and password, which you can save and send to the patient.
The new patient will now appear on your patient list.
Assigning a password is optional when adding a patient to your list. If the patient is already on your list but does not yet have credentials, open their profile, click Edit patient data, and assign a password from there. The patient will not be able to log in to the Patient Panel until a password has been set.
Step 2 - Wait for the patient to log in and confirm readiness
Before you can initiate a remote connection, the patient must:
- Log in to the Patient Panel using the credentials you sent them.
- Open the Online meeting tile from the main menu.
- Confirm their microphone, speaker, and camera settings.
- Click I'm ready.
Until the patient clicks I'm ready, the call option will not be available on your side.
Patient-side instructions are described in detail in the companion article: How to connect to your therapist during a remote session (Patient Panel).
Step 3 - Open the Training room
- In the top bar of the Therapist Panel, click the green Training room icon (the icon showing two connected monitors).
- You will see an overview of all available patient instances, including home patients. Each tile shows its current state (Offline, In use, etc.).
- Locate the tile for the patient who just confirmed they are ready - their instance will show as active.
Step 4 - Start the call
- Select the patient's instance in the Training room.
- In the bottom-right area of the screen, click Call (the green handset icon).
- A separate Online meeting window will open alongside the Training room, with dropdowns for your microphone, speakers, and camera.
- Click the green handset button to connect.
Once connected, you will see:
- The patient's webcam feed
- The patient's screen (their Patient Panel view)
- Live two-way audio
You can now greet the patient, verify that everything is working on their side, and prepare them for the training session.
Step 5 - Start the training session
With the call running in its own window, return to the main Therapist Panel view:
- Go back to the Dashboard.
- Click Start workout.
- When prompted with "Where will be the patient working out?", select the patient's home instance (the tile marked at Home/In use). Confirm with the arrow button in the bottom-right corner or double click the instance to launch the session.
- Generate a training session by selecting exercises, or load a previously prepared training template.
- Click Start to launch the session on the patient's device.
The training session will now run on the patient's device, while the call window remains open on the side - giving you continuous audio contact and a live view of the patient and their metrics.
During the session
While the session is running, the therapist has access to:
- Live view of the patient's screen - see exactly what the patient sees during the exercise.
- Camera feed - visual check of posture, positioning, and movement quality.
- Live session data - real-time metrics and biofeedback flowing into the Training room charts.
- Two-way audio - talk to the patient, give cues, correct technique.
You can pause the session, adjust parameters, or demonstrate movements through the screen share at any point.
Ending the session
- Finish or stop the training session as you normally would.
- In the Online meeting window, click the red handset icon to end the call.
- The patient will be returned to their Patient Panel main menu.
Session results are saved automatically and available in the patient's Reports section.
A note on asynchronous sessions
A remote call is not always required. You can also schedule a training session for the patient to complete on their own - the patient performs the exercises at any time, and you can review the results afterwards in the Reports section. In that mode, there is no live supervision and no option to adjust parameters during the session.
